The Scoop
Warabimochi Kamakura began as a warabimochi specialty shop in 1991, with its head store in front of Yahiko Shrine in Niigata. Its soft bracken-starch mochi is made to be eaten fresh, then coated in kinako, matcha, cinnamon matcha, or black sesame. Arcadia was the company's first United States store, followed by a full cafe in Torrance. Both Los Angeles-area branches remain in the company directory, with Torrance currently preparing to reopen. The matcha range spans boxed warabimochi, matcha ice cream, straight iced matcha, milk and cloud lattes, strawberry combinations, and yuzu lemonade. The five-piece matcha box gives the clearest read on the texture; pair it with a plain matcha latte or the loaded matcha yuzu lemonade.
