Goodboybob

Goodboybob is the Santa Monica roaster that began as an art project and is named after founder Erich Joiner's family dog. Joiner runs the production company Tool of North America and races cars professionally, and he opened the first Goodboybob on Broadway in 2017 with the idea of raising the everyday coffee ritual. The matcha is stone-ground and comes from Spirit Tea in Chicago, and the drinks built on it are the reason to pay attention. The Volcanic Matcha is our favorite thing on the board: an iced matcha latte under velvety vanilla bean cream, finished with volcanic black salt. The Guava Lava Matcha, hot or iced, runs on a house-made guava and marzipan syrup with whole milk, and it carries almonds in the syrup. Coffee is roasted on a Loring S15 Falcon in Torrance and a Loring S35 Kestrel at the Pulley Collective in Los Angeles, with green buying led by Marcus Young, who came to it after a decade of sourcing. Manhattan Beach followed the original in 2021, Venice arrived in July 2026 inside the Deus Ex Machina building, and the brand opened in Hudson, New York the same summer.
